While serving my country for the past twenty years, I’ve been hyper-focused, working with elite special operations units in austere environments. As I transition, I am excited to find a professional experience and culture that embraces the similar values I have grown accustomed to, such as cross-functional teams, critical decision-making under extreme stress, creating inclusion, and striving for excellence in everything I do. The military fostered my sense of adventure and desire to travel and be challenged outside my comfort zone. I've had exceptional experiences leading and managing elite groups of people, often with little guidance or oversight.
I've been on the frontlines of every conflict we've had over the past twenty years of being at war. One of the most challenging days was reacting to an attack while deployed as a Special Forces soldier at US Embassy in Bamako, Mali. My mission in that country consisted of wearing a suit and briefing the US Country team daily. Without orders and relying on my training, I formed a small group. I led them to intervene in this horrendous terrorist attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako, Mali, on 20 November 2015. Hundreds of innocent civilians were held hostage. This attack claimed the lives of twenty-three innocent civilians, including one American citizen. This attack challenged me in ways I have never been challenged. The actions of a few resulted in the freeing of hundreds of people being held hostage and, eventually, the end of what I will say was the longest day of my life. That day, I learned much about myself as it stretched my professional abilities to new heights. During those long and frustrating days, I'll always be grateful for my personal development. These lessons transformed me into who I am today. It was my innate love for others and the moral obligation to always put others in need before myself.
Transitioning from a fulfilling career in the military to building my company Blu Bearing Solutions, is my new mission in life. My company is founded on using the hard/soft skills I've learned and are “forged on the battlefield” to help others “sharpen an edge.”
